What is VPS technology?

VPS technology creates isolated, secure virtual environments (sometimes referred to as a sandbox) on a single physical server. VPS technology enables better server utilization and ensures applications do not conflict. Your VPS account performs and executes your requests like a stand–alone server. A VPS account can be rebooted independently without affecting other VPS accounts running on the same physical server. Each VPS account has its own root access, users, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files. Your VPS account behaves as a stand–alone Linux server. It uses standard startup scripts and software from multiple vendors. Your VPS account configuration file is customized to your needs when your account is set up. Your account configuration file can be changed as your needs change, for example; to accomodate new software. The file system and processes are fully isolated from any other account. Your VPS account includes its own IP address. Traffic snooping between VPS accounts is not possible. FairShare resource management controls the amount of resources available to your account. This enables the quality of service to meet the service level agreements associated with your account.
